The Bohra Thal Experience

Food Tours of Mumbai with The Makda family, belonging to the Dawoodi Bohra community offer you a very special experience– The Bohra Thal Experience.

The Bohra Thal, which is a huge plate, is based on the principle of community eating and sharing food together as a family and eating together as a family. The basis is the belief that this increases the feeling of love and brotherhood among all who share food. Food Tours of Mumbai along with Home Made by Tasneeem, bring you ‘The Bohra Thal Experience’, which is a sumptuous and extraordinary 5 – course meal, typical of the Dawoodi Bohra community.

Notes:

  • The Home Made meals will be served in the traditional Bohri manner, in a Thal which is a large dish placed on the floor with up to 5 people seated around it.
  • Comfortable, loose clothing is advised.
  • This is an experience at a home and care will be taken to ensure that you feel that you are at your own home. There will be the comfort of home food but not the sophistication of a restaurant.
  • Parking is a slight issue (the venue is opposite a hospital). We regret that a parking spot for your vehicle cannot be assured.
  • The Bohra Thal Experience brought to you by Food Tours of Mumbai with Home Made by Tasneem, is the result of a combination of the love for cooking delicious food and having people over to celebrate the best of the Bohri food.
  • Special Catering orders are accepted. Small party catering orders for up to 20 people can be arranged and the food will delivered to your place (additional delivery charges applicable).

Travel Tips

  • Mumbai Taxi: Some cabbies pimp out their interiors with themes that could give bars in Bangkok some stiff competition. Faux fur upholstery, neon blue or blinking lights, bucket seats, plastic flowers, mirrored ceilings -- you never know what you may encounter.

  • Mumbai Taxi: Ensure the meter is reset before you begin your ride. Old meters start at 1 and correspond to a fare chart that needs to be requested. Digital meters start at Rs 16 and Rs 20 post midnight.

  • Mumbai Climate: Mumbai, by and large, observes humidity throughout the year. Since it rests in the tropical zone, moreover close to sea, it enjoys more or less same weather.
